I have a nice big class to teach Landscape & Local History at Guilden Morden and the people are very friendly, we’re now past the half way point of the course and will be having a break for half term. Even when teaching you always learn so much and as Guilden Morden is on the other side of Cambridgeshire to where I live it isn’t somewhere I know very much about but the lovely thing about teaching the subject I am doing, is that I get to learn all about that area from the students. So far we’ve had some fantastic artifacts brought in by the students to show things they have discovered themselves. There was an amazing prehistoric hand-axe found in the fields in the area – something I would love to find myself! And this week a stunning Nordic designed artefact made from horn or bone found in the Fulbourn area which is thought to be perhaps a handle for something. I can’t wait to see what turns up over the next half of the course! Teaching Landscape & Local History WEA 10/01/2010
I'm now 2 weeks in to teaching my course on Landscape & Local History for the WEA at Guilden Morden. We have a nice big class and everyone is very friendly and keen. Guilden Morden is a lovely village and I am enjoying the excuse to drive out to that side of Cambridgeshire each week as there are some lovely villages to see. We all had some good fun exploring different kinds of maps last week and this Tuesday we'll be looking at how Archaeology can help with Landscape & Local History research, we'll look at aerial photographs and lumps and bumps on the ground and I'll be taking along some archaeological finds to handle :) I've had a brilliant but busy week practicing my new Mary Kay Mineral Makeup & Skin Care parties on my customers and friends. I have a new set up for the parties now and needed to fine tune how I do them, so I've been driving around the county teaching people how to look after their skin, doing makeovers and teaching people how to do their makeup. It's been really good fun! Thank you to everyone who has hosted a party for me and thank you to the guests who have come along for some free pampering :) I even managed to rope in the lovely ladies from Hardwick History Society and Comberton Antiquarian Society! I hope you have all enjoyed it and have had some fun learning new tricks of the trade and treating yourselves. If you have not yet had a Mary Kay party and you'd like to try one yourself, please do 'Contact Me' and I'll get you booked in. You can also read more infomation about it on my blog further down and on my Mobile Makeup Artist pages :) x I also managed to fit in doing makeup for the models of the fashion show at the Junction in Cambridge on Monday night - it was fun because it was a range of styles and dates from 1940's through to 1980's makeup, men and women. I have another fashion show to do the makeup for coming soon, so be sure to check out my Diary Highlights! Active Citizenship 06/24/2010
I had a great day training on Active Citizenship at Cintra House in Cambridge with the WEA yesterday. We learnt a lot about how to include this into the courses we teach but actually anyone can get involved in being an 'Active Citizen', one simple way to do this yourself is to get involved with Cambridgeshire Community Archives or History Pin! It's a really worthwhile and simple way to enhance your community history, if you need a hand, I'm more than happy to help. It doesn't have to be time consuming and you may have just one old picture you could share or just one story but put all together, these things really help create a sense of community and belonging, so why not get in touch :) | |||
