We have been donated some amazing old photos of the village and members of the Cherry Hinton Archives group have been busy getting them scanned in and uploaded to our CCAN site. We have also got a brilliant set of cine films which show various parts of Cambridge and Cherry Hinton in the 1960’s which we are having transferred to DVD. More news on that as we progress.

We, like many of the counties CCAN groups still have lots and lots of photos and stories to upload and continue to build a fantastic community record of life and history in our villages. If you have any memories, stories, pictures, photos and/or ephemera to share we’d love to hear from you. We don’t just want old photos though, all CCAN groups are also a ‘living memory’ and we record current history too. Things like changes to buildings, local events, news and updates on our areas. We also carry out voice recordings, oral history, make pod-casts, videos, DVD’s, books and much more!

Most CCAN groups have regular open meetings that you can attend and bring along your contributions. You don’t have to part with your pictures if you don’t want to either as all groups will scan in you items and give them back to you if you wish. Wow - we have been very busy! Lots of new photos, stories, memories and archives have been going on to the Cambridgeshire Community Archives Network (CCAN) and we've been busy working in partnership with the BBC for an exciting new project History on the High Street (which you can read more about in the blog above!) Many exciting things happening at CCAN and as of January our regular public workshops will start so that you can all come along and find out more - Watch this blog spot and My Diary Highlights for details coming soon :)

Options for you to donate your memories, old photos, written tales etc.

There are many ways that you can contribute to the Cambridgeshire Community Archives Network (CCAN).
  • You can Contact Me anytime by phone 07999 853907 or the Contact Me page on here for help and advice.
  • I can help link you with your appropriate CCAN group
  • Someone from our team can come out to visit you at home to help record your memories.
  • You can come along to any of our open events where you’ll be able to bring along any old pictures, memories etc. You can check the CCAN information page on the CALH website for details of up coming events in your area.
  • You can email me scans of your paper archives, pictures and written memories – to michelle.bullivant@talk21.com
  • If you would like to start your own CCAN group for your area/society/group then please do get in touch and I’ll pop out and have a coffee and chat with you to give you all the information and help you need to get started.
  • If you want to become a member of any of the CCAN groups and contribute from your own home or at group meetings then, again please do get in touch and I will help you get started.
CCAN is a community archive and therefore is all about you - the people of Cambridgeshire - so why not get involved !

I'm really pleased to tell you that I am now Vice Chair of Cambridgeshire Community Archives Network (CCAN) overall managment committee :). For those of you that don't know about or haven't had a look at CCAN yet please do visit our fantastic site www.ccan.co.uk At our meeting we had a look at how many images alone had been uploaded to the site since we started about 3 years ago and we have an amazing amount! Well over 23000 images alone and that's not even counting our text, stories, articles and hotspots!!! All donated and shared by you! :)

CCAN is a fantastic resource for schools, researchers, family historians, local communities and people just like you to be able to share and get involved with the history of Cambridgeshire. If you would like to know more about how to get involved and start a group for your area, village or club or if you'd like to become a contributor and recieve free training and help on being part of this great network then please Contact Me and I will help you get started.

We have some really exciting plans for the future of CCAN and some great linked projects coming up. So watcch this space for developments! ;)

We are nearly there! I am just finishing the organisation of this great event which will let you know more about Cambridgeshires biggest and best online archives store of old pictures, memories and stories! Look forward to seeing you there!
Cambridgeshire Association for Local History & Cambridgeshire Community Archives Open Days at The Granta Bar, Cambridge.
Come along to our fantastic open event at The Granta Bar in the University Centre which will be show-casing Cambridgeshire Associtaion for Local History and The Cambridgeshire Community Archives!
The doors will be open from 10am -11.30pm on Thursday 20th May and again 10am -2.30pm on Friday 21st May.
Come along and see ...our displays, find out who we are and what we do, we will have some great pictures of old Cambridgeshire on display too - come and see if you recognise anyone or the places!
Why not bring along some old pictures of your own for us to help identify or add to our brilliant archives site.
