We have been donated some amazing old photos of the village and members of the Cherry Hinton Archives group have been busy getting them scanned in and uploaded to our CCAN site. We have also got a brilliant set of cine films which show various parts of Cambridge and Cherry Hinton in the 1960’s which we are having transferred to DVD. More news on that as we progress.

Here's just a couple of those pictures:

We, like many of the counties CCAN groups still have lots and lots of photos and stories to upload and continue to build a fantastic community record of life and history in our villages. If you have any memories, stories, pictures, photos and/or ephemera to share we’d love to hear from you. We don’t just want old photos though, all CCAN groups are also a ‘living memory’ and we record current history too. Things like changes to buildings, local events, news and updates on our areas. We also carry out voice recordings, oral history, make pod-casts, videos, DVD’s, books and much more!

Most CCAN groups have regular open meetings that you can attend and bring along your contributions. You don’t have to part with your pictures if you don’t want to either as all groups will scan in you items and give them back to you if you wish. I had a lovely visit out to the brilliant new Community Centre and café in Cottenham a couple of weeks ago. I had a nice meeting there with Cottenham Community Archives Group (CCAN) and was so impressed by all the hard work and interesting things the group are working on. They already have 20 pages, with over 360 old and interesting pictures already!!!

The wonderful new Community Centre and café is well worth a visit if you are going through Cottenham and is a fantastic example of a community lead centre with such a great buzz about it. To find out more click here - http://cottenhamcc.org/

Michellebullivant.com is now a partner in the new  BBC High Street History Project, along with Cambridgeshire Association for Local History (CALH) & Cambridgeshire Community Archives Network (CCAN).

This is all to link in with the brilliant BBC One 6-part series Turn Back Time -The High Street, which started on 2nd November (you can catch up on BBC I-Player) which takes a group of shop keeping families back in time to experience live and work in shops on the High Street from Victorian Britain through to the 1970's.

We are all very excited to bring you the news about this new partnership, what it will mean to you in the communities around Cambridgeshire and how you can take part!

Some of things that you can get involved in:

The Memory Walls will be up in the participating libraries and you can bring along things like your old pictures, written tales, old receipts and you can even just turn up and take part in recorded interviews! Keep an eye on this blog spot and My Diary Highlights for information and details of when events are being held and watch out for news and info on BBC Radio Cambs, the local newspapers, the BBC website and leaflets coming soon!

I had a fantastic couple of days in Norfolk helping out with a filming project run by Media Projects East and my lovely friend and super historian Neil Storey. I used my wonderful and adaptable Mary Kay makeup products to makeup a couple of farmers, a landlord, a couple of knights and a Saracen…and not forgetting the blood splattered arm on the beach!! I also got to muck in as a sound person and photographer which was fun – I should think they have regretted given me the camera though as I love taking pictures and probably took far too many ;)

On the second day of filming I got my first ever trip on the broads as we sailed around in a Norfolk Wherry boat that was about 95 years old and stunning.

It was really good fun and rewarding and I can’t wait to see the finished product which will be screened on Dec 1st in Norwich.

I have been gearing up for our CCAN groups mass upload of pictures to History Pin and the big task of adding the hundreds more items- from, photos, scrapbooks, podcasts, memories etc. - to both CCAN and History Pin. Whilst doing this I thought I might as well sort out my own archives and my own thousands of photos - and it is a real task I can tell you! But it is proving good fun too, as I'm getting to see some great old archives and re-discovering some of my old pictures too. I have been using Google's Picasa to store my own family pics but have decided that as I have so many and many are from archaeology sites, history trips etc. I might as well share them online too. So to save my already packed website from getting too overloaded with family holiday pics ;) I have created a public web album on Picasa which I have generally listed by placename. You are more than welcome to check out my pics on there and add your comments - just bare in mind I have only just started and there are thousands more to come!!!
I now have a great deposit scheme for all our groups and Cambs Archives with the lovely Mr Chris Jakes at the Cambridgeshire Collection, where we now make monthly deposits of all our collected material :) If you have any memories of pictures etc. that you would like to be added to our CCAN groups or for me to help you with then please feel free to get in touch.
