We had a lovely time attending the launch for Open Cambridge on Thursday. We met some lovely people, drank champagne and had some yummy canepes. The event was held in the Brasserie on the forth floor of John Lewis in Cambridge. we were greeted by a string orchestra and went through to hear more about Open Cambridge and those involved in organising it, sponsors and some of the events planned for the weekend.

Also worth looking at is the Robert Sayle (John Lewis) group of Cambridgeshire Community Archives (CCAN). All you have to do is visit www.ccan.co.uk and click on the 'places' tab then go to the Robert Sayles Memories group. There you will find loads of fantastic pictures and memories from the Cambridge Robert Sayles. The group actually has a room in the present John Lewis store, so if you want to add some of your own pictures or memories please do get in touch. You can use the 'Contact Me' page on this website if that's easier :)

I've had a very busy couple of weeks and haven't had the chance to get on here to do my blog ! Summer holidays have started and Charlotte went along to the Holiday Club run by the Churches in Cherry Hinton last week, in the mornings. She had a great time and we got to go to a lovely fun fair, parents show on evening :) Poor granny is still very ill and the family are having to do shifts looking after her, it has been really really hard, especially seeing her when she isn't thinking clearly, it can be very distressing, I hope she gets more better days and things sort out a more :(
Well, one week of summer holidays done only 5 more to go! Will have to go for more picnics and walks, which will be easier now that little puppy has had her injections and can go out as of Friday and I've almost finished writing up War Ditches research :)
So, what else has been happening....
On Saturday 24th July we had the Cherry Hinton Community Groups Fair which was hosted by The Friends of Cherry Hinton Hall and showcased all different kinds of groups and clubs in the local area. It was a great chance to meet each other and find out what things are going on in and around Cherry Hinton.
We had a packed afternoon of displays and demos by some of the groups and then The Friends of Cherry Hinton Hall had its new logo unveiled by the Mayor. We had got local school children to enter a competition to design the logo and had choosen a winner at our last meeting. There was a lovely bit in the paper about it last week and the Mayor spent some time with me finding out all about CCAN and looking at the Cherry Hinton CCAN :)

I had a great day training on Active Citizenship at Cintra House in Cambridge with the WEA yesterday. We learnt a lot about how to include this into the courses we teach but actually anyone can get involved in being an 'Active Citizen', one simple way to do this yourself is to get involved with Cambridgeshire Community Archives or History Pin! It's a really worthwhile and simple way to enhance your community history, if you need a hand, I'm more than happy to help. It doesn't have to be time consuming and you may have just one old picture you could share or just one story but put all together, these things really help create a sense of community and belonging, so why not get in touch :)

Cambridgeshire Association for Local History & Cambridgeshire Community Archives Open Days at The Granta Bar, Cambridge.
Come along to our fantastic open event at The Granta Bar in the University Centre which will be show-casing Cambridgeshire Associtaion for Local History and The Cambridgeshire Community Archives!
The doors will be open from 10am -11.30pm on Thursday 20th May and again 10am -2.30pm on Friday 21st May.
Come along and see ...our displays, find out who we are and what we do, we will have some great pictures of old Cambridgeshire on display too - come and see if you recognise anyone or the places!
